The issue that I stressed through out my speech was the clashing ration of the junior boys to the junior girls. The ratio is extravagantly 3 to 1 which has been brought up in the junior hallways many times. The main point of my essay was that boys were feeling left out in situations in class because there are too many girls. Some classes only have 1 or 2 boys, and through the essay I showed the feelings of individuals I interviewed. Not only are boys affected, but I wanted to show how the girls were being negatively affected as well. Girls need the boys to participate in group projects, but if the boy students feel too shy to talk out, the whole group will receive a negative grade. Not only grade wise, but girls will not be able to find a prom date. These were the main points that I needed to stress and through out my speech I wanted to emphasize that the junior ratio of the genders is actually a problem that should be solved over time.
The presentation of my speech has room for improvement. When presenting, I found the time going by extremely fast and I wasn't sure that I was emphasizing the points that I needed to such as the boys feeling left out in a class. In important parts of the speech I could have made my tone different so that the audience could listen to the key factors easily. There were occasional hand gestures that were made through out my speech but I believe that I could have made it more fluent for my speech to appeal more natural. The positive factor of my speech was the confidence that I spoke with through out the speech. Eye contact was also made more than I had thought I could have done which was a very positive factor. In general I feel as if the message I tried to convey was successfully said to the audience and I hope the issue of the boy to girl ratio can be solved over a short period of time.
